Introduction:

Garland Library's  Subscription Databases and the World Wide Web offer a large number of valuable sites to those in the fields of business, economics, and management. We have gathered some of these here and have arranged them into three major categories: Research Databases and  General Business Websites: A Classified Library and Additional Organizational Management Links

Infotrac I Academic OneFile is the premier source for peer-reviewed, full-text articles from the world's leading journals and reference sources. With extensive coverage of the physical sciences, technology, medicine, social sciences, the arts, theology, literature and other subjects, Academic OneFile is both authoritative and comprehensive. With millions of articles available in both PDF and HTML full-text with no restrictions, researchers are able to find accurate information quickly. Includes full-text coverage of the New York Times back to 1995. Updated daily."

JSTOR (Journal Storage) contains full-text articles in the area of economics. There is a "rolling wall" of currency, meaning titles more recent than three to five years old must be found in one of the other databases described here.
BUSINESS INSIGHTS, INFOTRAC II provides researchers with information on companies, markets and industries. From market  trends, mergers and acquisitions to current management theory and company overviews. Access business and trade journals, newspapers and company directory profiles. LEGALTRAC, from Gale on Infotrac II, contains articles/abstracts in all major law reviews, law journals, specialty law and bar association journals and legal newspapers.
BUSINESS SOURCE ELITE, from EBSCO,  provides full-text for over 1,000 journals covering business, management, economics, finance, banking, accounting, and more. Highly recommended source for information in Human Resource Management. LEXIS NEXIS ACADEMIC UNIVERSE is well known for its emphasis on business, law, and medicine and provides all manner of information from full-text periodical articles to text of cases involving local and regional courts and survey results from Gallup and Roper Polls.
GALE VIRTUAL REFERENCE   Access to the full text of several reference materials usually found in the Reference Section of a library.   Represented titles are: Encyclopedia of Small Business, Gale Encyclopedia of U.S. Economic History and Gale Encyclopedia of Popular Culture. PsycARTICLES Full text journals related to the psychology of human behavior. Several journals may assist in providing articles related to understanding  employee behavior and performance.Also consult PsycInfo for more abstracts and book summaries.
GALE VIRTUAL REFERENCE Another collection of Gale reference titles covering all areas and include: The Encyclopedia of Crime and Justice, Encyclopedia of Education, and The Environmental Encyclopedia. REGIONAL BUSINESS NEWS This database provides comprehensive full text coverage for regional business publications. Regional Business News incorporates coverage of 75 business journals, newspapers and newswires from all metropolitan and rural areas within the United States.
General Business File International  
Analyze company performance and activity, industry events and trends as well as the latest in management, economics and politics. Access to broker research reports, trade pubs, newspapers, journals,  directory info.
STANDARD AND POOR'S NETADVANTAGE provides access to a broad range of business information including up to date financial information, credit ratings, analytical services, and industry surveys on financial markets from around the world as well as company information.  
GENERAL BUSINESS FILE ASAP, from TEL on Infotrac I, allows users to analyze company performance and activity, industry events and trends as well as the latest  in management, economics and politics. STATESMAN'S YEARBOOK  An interactive resource that incorporates the latest information, profiles and statistics on 192 countries of the world including demographic, economic, political, military, culture and communication, international affairs and more. 
 INFOTRAC GENERAL ONEFILE, from TEL on Infotrac I, is a  one-stop source for news and periodical articles on a wide range of topics: including business, computers, and economics. VALUE LINE INVESTMENT SURVEY is described on the website as "a comprehensive source of information and advice on approximately 1,700 stocks, more than 90 industries, the stock market, and the economy."

Small Business Directories Wiki   This wiki encourages members to submit information on a variety of topics to assist small business owners.  It includes directories like this in several business fields and is constantly expanding.  One fairly complete listing is of Accounting organizations and trade associations.

Census and Economic Research Centers by State...
USA.gov is described on its website as: "... the official U.S. gateway to all government information, ... the catalyst for a growing electronic government."  All government departments, branches and agencies that have a web presence are accessible through this website, including all of those of interest to students of business, economics and management. Among the resources available are these which follow:
Bureau of Economic Analysis, part of the Department of Commerce, includes all kinds of historical and contemporary information as well as full text of every issue of the Survey of Current Business back to January 1998 (with subject guides  to articles therein back to 1995). 
Bureau of Labor Statistics Selective Access Data...

Federal Reserve System website includes a searchable archive of articles from the Federal Reserve Bulletin and The BeigeBook, a summary of U.S. economic conditions published several times a year.

S.E.C. Edgar Database,a searchable database of information companies filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission.  
Standard Industrial Classification, searchable 1987 edition.
U.S. Small Business Administration is helpful to students and entrepreneurs.
U.S. Government Manual" As the official handbook of the Federal Government, the United States Government Manual provides comprehensive information on the agencies of the legislative, judicial, and executive branches. It also includes information on quasi-official agencies, international organizations in which the United States participates, and boards, commissions, and committees. The Manual begins with reprints of the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution. The new edition of the Manual is available annually in late summer."   the website also includes retrospective editions.

Annual Report Gallery A-Z features a search engine, but is less comprehensive than Annual Reports Online (next).
Annual Reports Online gives users information and guidance on how to get into Internet-based annual reports and proxies; requires some link searching as, unlike EDGAR, it has no search engine.

 Masters/Doctoral Papers

The dissertation source UMI/Proquest Digital Dissertations, is an excellent source to review the first 24 pages of UMI dissertations published after 1996.   You have the option of purchasing the entire dissertation in paper or digital form.  Also, the University of Virginia has a directory  and short abstracts of Electronic Theses and Dissertations (ETDs) in the Humanities (including those with some economic emphasis) that are currently in progress or have been recently completed.   The Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations  is another source that has digital theses and dissertations available for purchase.  All are excellent substitutes for Dissertation Abstracts which is available at larger universities such as ETSU or UT. Other sites for dissertations/masters papers include Oxford Academic, and, perhaps the most extensive of these retail outlets, Dissertation.Com, which sells downloadable electronic copies.

Financial Data Finder, from Ohio State...
FindArticles.Com is a  free index to full-text magazines which appear on the web (including a few not covered by the subscription databases noted above). It  is, surprisingly, overlooked on the links pages of most libraries . Not to be taken lightly, it is recommended.

Ingenta is a bibliographic and database service (formerly known as Carl Uncover) which allows users to review its database of 5 million plus periodical articles. This is really a very good source to learn about the existence of
articles, ala a "Reader's Guide." Users may purchase articles from Carl or obtain them from Tate Library  via ILL. 
Knowledge@Wharton,allows viewers to access articles based on both research conducted at Wharton and a variety of other sources.
