About the Library Director:

A professional librarian and historian since 1966, Myron J. "Jack" Smith, Jr., Professor of Library Science and History, came to Tusculum College in 1990 after a 15-year tenure as Library Director and Professor of Library Science and History at Salem College (now Salem-International University) in West Virginia. Active in his profession, the director, with his small dedicated staff, works diligently to improve library resource and access opportunities for the Tusculum community. A major component of this approach centers on cooperation, collaboration, and electronic access for TC with a variety of other local libraries, most notably the Greeneville-Greene County Public Library, Walters State Community College, East Tennessee State, UTK, and Watauga Regional Library. Prof. Smith is also a producer of information resources on subjects ranging in topic from airlines to Watergate and from baseball to World War II. The author of 70 volumes of bibliography and history, Smith has been the recipient of a variety of honors and awards for his work. In 1993, he received the Nelson Ross Award from the Professional Football Writers Association. In 1994, he joined with Dr. Donal J. Sexton to prepare Glimpses of Tusculum: A Pictorial History of Tusculum College, which was followed several years later by his profile in Tusculumnus of the U.S.S. Wyalusing , the Civil War gunboat for which the college bell was originally cast. Smith remains the only American to have received the Richard Franck Preis for historical bibliography from the German government. The Library Director and his wife Dennie reside north of Greeneville on a small farm with a dog and six cats.
