These holiday hours are also posted on the library website. Please remember that Tate Library Online is available 24/7. Someone, probably the editor, will be checking for “Ask a Librarian” e-mail inquiries from home several times during those couple of weeks we are off; rudimentary responses (e.g., password instruction) will be provided as necessary.
An Anniversary
One year ago (can you believe it?), the contents of Tate Library were transferred to Pioneer Gym. A complete visual record of that move, together with photos of the groundbreaking and construction work on Tate’s renovation are posted at the “news” section of the library’s web-page. Some of these are as recent as the week of December 8, ‘03. This virtual, visual history will be maintained and we invite you to review it at your leisure.
Speaking of anniversaries, at 10:30 am, December 17, 1903, Orville Wright made the first powered heavier-than-air flight and changed the world.
Book Recall
We want to thank everyone who so graciously responded to our request for the return of materials by the end of the semester. Although the book grinches have been out visiting and a number of phone calls have been made to those unable to keep that date, we are confident that a significant number of titles will soon be in hand and turned over to Tech Services for bar coding.
New Books
Your attention is called to the November 2003 New Books list. A total of 239 new titles have been added, all from the works ordered by faculty earlier.
Jack and Anne visit Nashville
On December 5-7, the Library Director and Assistant Library Director for Distance Education traveled to Nashville to participate in TC’s in-person reaffirmation review of its final outstanding recommendation at the annual conference of the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association. All-in-all, this was a tremendous learning opportunity for the two of us, much better appreciated now that it is over!
Perhaps more than some, we realize that the SACS process continues. In January, we will be traveling over to ETSU to review how Sherrod Library, one of several specially-designated proving sites, is working with the new SACS guidelines that we all will use for our next exam in 2010.

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL AND TO ALL A HAPPY AND BLESSED NEW YEAR!
from your library staff: Jack, Anne, Charles, Mary, Carolyn, Marsha, Kathy, and Billy.
November Usage Figures
In the data which follows, the first of two figures is that for Tate Library – Greeneville and the second is for Tate Library – Knoxville; where there is only one number, it is combined for both. Some items do not lend themselvesto this easy breakdown and are addressed as appropriate; several people log on to visit our links library or freedatabases for which we have no figures, e.g., FirstGov. The various database vendors all provide access tomore than one database; however, the complete list (49 different titles) is too long for breakdown here.
