Comments:
Information literacy/library use sessions: Library use and Information Literacy instruction continued to hold a prominent place in library service during 0809. A total of 267 sessions (11.3% increase) were provided, including a 13.5% jump in number to 101 on the residential campus. That is not only a new high Greeneville total number but represents a major boost in quality, as all were conducted in direct collaboration with teaching faculty.
Circulation/Reference: In a further demonstration of the growing popularity and acceptance of the format, more electronic books (4,773) were circulated than print (4,104). There were 5,504 reference transactions (in person, phone, e-mail) this school year (a 22.12% increase over 0708). These are all welcome gains, especially in the area of reference.
Interlibrary loans: In 0809, 340 items were traded between campuses, mailed, or obtained from other libraries. This figures represents a decline of 14 titles from 0708 caused by one less intra campus exchange and two faculty scholars not borrowing as many titles as they had a year earlier.
Physical use: A total of 61,881 people physically employed the two non-museum libraries of Tusculum College this school year. Greeneville facility traffic increased by 8,664 (29%).
Electronic visits: Electronic visits to the Garland Library during the 0809 reporting period again passed the half million mark: 511,939. Some benchmark perspective. According to State of Tennessee figures released in April 09, Tusculum College made more use (438,802 visits) of the Tennessee Electronic Library in calendar year 2008 than any other academic institution. Among public institutions, the University of Tennessee (K) was second with 241, 701 visits, while among privates, Freed-Hardeman University was just behind TC with 421,584, followed by the University of Memphis with 208,457. TEL (known here as Infotrac I) includes two of TC’s most important databases, Academic OneFile and General Business File ASAP.
