Vol. XVI, no. 3 THE LIBRARY AT TUSCULUM COLLEGE January-February 2006
Happy New Year!:
Though we will have been back a couple of weeks when you read this, the library staff wants to wish every member of the Tusculum College community a happy and prosperous 2006. May all our resolutions be kept.
Acquisitions:
The forms annually sent to Schools for the creation of new books to be purchased over the summer will be sent out shortly. If faculty are reading this before their chairs have contacted them, please be thinking of new book and video/DVD titles you would like the library to add. We appreciate the good work everyone has done with this in the past and know the recommendations will be equally well chosen this year.
Wireless in the library:
We are occasionally asked about our wireless network by students and other patrons bringing in their own laptops.. Right now, the best place for using a wireless connection here is in the Information Commons. Users must choose “Reference” when asked by their laptop as to which wireless connection to employ. It is anticipated that wireless connectivity will be enhanced in the future.
Newcomen Society publications:
The library has a large number of addresses from the Newcomen Society. These addresses cover the history of corporations, charitable organizations, museums, and
Educational institutions. These will prove helpful to students in Business, Management, Education, Museum Studies, and a number of other disciplines. An index has been created and will be found at the circulation desk and at the reference desk as well as on the library website.
Library staff honored:
In a brief December 16th ceremony in the library seminar room, President Henry presented the library staff with a certificate of appreciation authorized by the Board of Trustees at its October meeting. The document, which will be on public display in the library once it is framed, complemented the employees for their service and good humor during the long hours involved in more than three years of library renovation.

In Rehearsal:

Anne Reever, Asst. Library Director for Distance Learning, is currently one of a fine local cast in rehearsal for the musical The Secret Garden based on the award winning children’s book of the same name by Frances Hodgson Burnett. Performances will be located at Greeneville's Historic Capitol Theater Friday & Saturday, March 3, 4, 10, 11, 2006 at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday March 5 & 12, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. Since joining us in 2002, Anne has appeared in a number of area productions, including several with the Morristown Theatre Guild. For ticket information please call the Capitol Theater at (423) 638-7712.
Globe trotters:
Distance Learning Librarian SE and Knoxville Library Administrator Mary Halliburton and English Prof. Edie Wagner have just returned from a week-long visit to Japan. I bet they have many tales to tell and are eager to share them. 歓迎された家 [Welcome home].
Publishes
Baseball Bibliography:

Last spring, it was announced that Jack Smith was publishing a multi-volume guide to the literature of baseball since its beginning. The four-volume work The Baseball Bibliography was published by McFarland & Co. over the Christmas holidays. Since 1969, Tusculum’s librarian has published 77 volumes of history and bibliography.
